Mr. Joseph L. Caruncho (FIU, BBA, '81)
CEO of Preferred Care Partners, Inc. Mr. Caruncho cofounded the Company in 1996, and has overseen its growth from inception to the largest privately owned Medicare plan in Florida. He is a licensed attorney and member of the Florida Bar's corporate and health law sections and earned his J.D. from Nova Southeastern University. For over 13 years prior to founding the company, Mr. Caruncho was a corporate healthcare attorney representing clients in the healthcare industry, focusing on identifying strategic opportunities for physicians within the healthcare sector, and implementing these opportunities from concept to operations. Active in the South Florida community, Mr. Caruncho has been involved in the following organizations: Florida Bar Association, Florida Board of Governors Prevent Blindness America, and he served as a Public Arbitrator with the National Association of Securities Dealers. He has received numerous recognitions, including induction in 2004 into FIU's College of Business Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame, selection as the 2005 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the State of Florida, 2005 South Florida Business Journal's Healthcare CEO of the Year, and listed in Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics in the U.S. In 2008, Mr. Caruncho received the Alumni Association Torch Award for Distinguished Alumnus from the College of Business. He has been a member of the FIU Foundation Board of Directors since November 2006, and currently serves as Chairperson. He is a former board member of the FIU Alumni Association, serves on the FIU College of Business Dean's Council, and is a Founder of the FIU College of Medicine. He has one son, Joseph, 19 and one daughter, Natalie, 22. Mr. Caruncho resides in Miami. |
