Jeffrey L. Horstmyer, M.D.
Neurologist, member of the Board of Trustees at Mercy Hospital, and founding chairman of the Department of Neurology at the FIU College of Medicine. Certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Horstmyer has served the Miami area for over 20 years. Previous positions include President of the Mercy Hospital Medical Staff, Chief of the Division of Neurology at Mercy Hospital, Chairman of the Emergency Room Committee at Health South Doctors Hospital, and member of the Professional Advisory Committee of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in South Florida. He is also a founding member of the Dade County Stroke Consortium. Dr. Horstmyer is a Founder and Chairman of the MS Centers of Florida Foundation and the Founder of the MS Center of Miami. He was given the National Multiple Sclerosis Leadership Award and was named one of Florida’s top doctors. For his 10 years of dedication towards procuring a medical school he was awarded the Kal Kovens Distinguished Community Service Medallion. He has received numerous honors from the Penalver Clinic, Camillus Health Concern and St. John Bosco Clinic for providing free neurological care to homeless patients. After graduating from Emory University Business School he attended the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed medical training at JMH/UM where he was appointed administrative chief resident of neurology. He completed a fellowship in neuromuscular neurology and electroneurophysiology at the University of Miami. At FIU Dr. Horstmyer was chairman of the President’s Council for 6 years, a member of the Board of Directors since 2006, a member of the Advisory Board of Biomedical Engineering and of the Frost Art Museum. Dr. Horstmyer and his wife, Tillie Fox, a longtime faculty member of the Department of Mathematics, are founders of the FIU College of medicine. |
