Donald E. Lefton
Founder and co-principal of the Continental Companies, a casino and hotel development and operating company with properties throughout the United States, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Mexico and South America. Mr. Lefton graduated from the School of Business at Ohio State University in 1953 and Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland in 1955. He practiced law in Cleveland, Ohio until 1969, when he moved to Miami along with his partner Sherwood M. Weiser, where they founded The Continental Companies, a company to develop, own and operate hotels and resorts and casinos. For the past 37 years since his arrival in Miami, Mr. Lefton has devoted a significant amount of time to numerous civic and philanthropic endeavors, both on a local and national level including past President of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation; past Chair of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau; President of the Concert Association of Florida; and Vice Chair of the Performing Arts Center. His efforts and involvements were recognized with the receiving of the prestigious annual Silver Medallion Award from the National Conference of Christian and Jews; his induction as a Member of the Society of Fellows, Case Western Reserve Law School; Community Service Award from the Advertising Federation of Miami; Leadership Award from the State of Israel Bonds; Founder’s Award from Hebrew University; Founder of Mount Sinai Hospital; and awarded a Fellow of Brandeis University in Massachusetts, to mention a few. In addition to serving on the FIU Foundation Board of Directors since 1994 and serving as Chairman from 2002-2004, Mr. Lefton is a member of the FIU Hospitality Management Industry Advisory Board. He resides in Miami with his wife Judy and three daughters. |
