 Sanford L. Ziff
Founder of Sunglass Hut International, Inc., retired in 1989. Dr. Sanford L. Ziff was born in Akron, Ohio. He attended the University of Akron, the University of Miami and received his Doctorate Degree from the Northern Illinois of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Ziff practiced Optometry in Miami specializing and doing clinical research in Contact Lenses. He has been published in most all Optometric and Ophthalmologic Journals in the United States and abroad. He has lectured on these research studies throughout the United States and the world, including New York, San Francisco, Houston, Paris, London and Tokyo. Dr. Ziff is renowned as a lecturer on Contact Lenses, Business and Philanthropy. In 1971 Dr. Ziff founded Sunglass Hut of America and established over 550 boutiques and kiosks of sunglasses in major malls in the U.S. and Canada. He and his wife Dolores are now engaged in Philanthropy on a full time basis. Dr. Ziff's name graces Nova Southeastern University Health Centers, the Sanford L. Ziff Family Art Gallery at the University of Miami Lowe Art Gallery, the Sanford L. Ziff Placement Center at the University of Miami, the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Family Education Building at Florida International University, and the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Promenade in the Green Library at Florida International University. Scholarships have been established at FIU for students on the Arts and Science Programs. Dr. Ziff has been a member of the FIU Board since 2002. Most recently Dr. Ziff's commitment to the arts and culture of South Florida has been recognized by the naming the Performing Art Center's Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House in their honor. |
